Oakland has unfortunately topped the nation in robberies. Several victims had been robbed at gun point and we need to be extra cautious during this holiday season. Although below you can see that burglary had decreased between 2012-2013, auto burglary increased. According to the City of Oakland website, from 2012 to 2013 robbery has increased by 15% and the use of a firearm to commit robbery was at the top of the list for weapon of choice with physical force second. Burglary in general has decreased by 7%, however, auto burglary rose from 6,697 incidents in 2012 to 6,928 incidents in 2013, a 3% increase. Home burglary decreased 18%. That can only means one thing. Because there is a decrease in home burglary, burglars are now targeting your car which is parked right in front of your house. If they do get away with breaking into your car, your house can be next.
