San Jose is the third largest community in California and it has become the third highest in burglary and Larceny crimes. From 2012 to 2013 burglary decreased by .63% and larceny decreased by 14.4%, according to the data collected by the SJPD. Even with the decrease in property crime, the following statement still remains strong. President of the San Jose Police Officers Association, Jim Unland quoted "They've been releasing prisoners out of the state prison, putting them in county jails, which then means you have to take people out of the county jails and put them on the street. These are non-violent people, non-violent people tend to burglarize." With that said, even if crime decreases for a year or two it's only a matter of time before desperate times call for desperate measures and that's when residents are victimized.
